Retha passed away peacefully at home at the age of 86 after an extensive battle with Alzheimer's disease.  A native of Fulton, AK.  She raised nine children.  She later attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education.  Retha taught school at Highland Elementary in Omaha for twenty years.  She retired from teaching in 1999.

Retha was a dedicated member of Pilgrim Baptist Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

She is proceeded in death by husbands Johnnie Harris and Carl Thomas as well as her seventh son, Delbert Harris.

She is survived by her children, William Harris (Antoinette), WA., Leonard Harris, Baltimore, MD., Donald Harris, Kevin Harris (Annie), and Keith Harris (LaTricia), Omaha, NE., Irvin Harris (Jacqueline), Methuen, NH., Luther Harris (Andrea), Dallas, TX., Kathy Tillman (Tyrone), Des Moines, IA.; step children Gaylord Thomas, Tracy Moody, Beverly Thomas, Omaha, NE., and Carla Anderson, Dallas, TX.; siblings Dorothy Thornton, Texarkana, TX., Hannah Jean Moore, Jonathan Nash, James Nash, Omaha, NE., and Althea Lee, Charlotte, NC., numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and a host of extended family and loving friends.
