Jackie L. Casper

Jackie L. Casper, age 80, passed away November 9, 2023 in Omaha.

Jackie was born on August 8, 1943 in Omaha, NE. She graduated from Omaha South High School in 1961 and University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) formerly the University of Omaha in 1965 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education with minors in Religion and Spanish. 

Jackie was a dedicated teacher throughout her life. She taught elementary education in Omaha Public Schools (OPS) for 30 years at Madison, Ashland Park, and Field Club Elementary schools. She also taught summer school at South Lincoln and Corrigan Elementary schools. After retiring from OPS, she remained a substitute teacher in OPS and reading tutor at Sylvan Learning Center in Omaha. She was the Director of Children Christian Ministries at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Omaha leading Sunday School, Wednesday Night, and Summer Celebrate Art programming. Her love for teaching continued throughout her life, as she cared for her six beloved grandchildren, teaching them reading, writing, math, and every beauty of God’s world that she could share with them. In teaching, she delighted in seeing the eyes of children light up and their smiles when they observed progress in their learning.

Jackie was a founding member of the Omaha South High School Alumni Association in 1992 and inducted into the South High School Alumni Association’s Hall of Fame in 2022. Her other memberships include St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Job’s Daughters, Bethel #18, Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at UNO, South High Gals, and the Older Wiser Lutherans (OWL) Group and Outreach Ministries at St. Thomas Lutheran Church. 

Survived by daughter, Deanna (Sean) Marcelino; son, Brett (Jamie) Casper; grandchildren, Rocco, Mia, Sofia, and Caetano Marcelino and Ava and Kellen Casper; brother, Henry J. (Cathy) Schultz; nieces, Sara (Michael) Price and Kristen (David) Lorimor; great nieces and nephews, and many other family members and dear friends.  Preceded in death by parents, Orletha Maxine and Henry V. Schultz and husband of 37 years, George Casper.

Visitation Monday, November 20, 2023 beginning at 9:00AM, followed by a Service at 11:00AM at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 17007 Q St., Omaha, NE.  Interment: Graceland Park Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Thomas Lutheran Church or the Omaha South High School Alumni Association.
