David C. Smith, Sr. Obituary

ONEIDA- David C. Smith, Sr., 74, of Grand Street, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Wynn Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born in Oneida on March 1, 1950, he was the son of Wilford and Barbara Haberle Smith. David was a lifelong resident of the area, with the exception of traveling while stationed in the Air Force. He was a graduate of Oneida High School. David married Robin Richer in Oneida on December 26, 1972.

Prior to his retirement, David was employed with Stickley Furniture in assembly. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1968-79. David enjoyed league bowling, playing softball and golfing. He was very knowledgeable with woodworking and helped many people with their house remodeling and roofing.

Surviving are: his wife Robin of Oneida; daughter, Tina (John) Dibble of Saranac Lake; son, David Smith, Jr. of Kirkville; seven grandchildren, Colin VanNamee, Ashley McGinley, Leilani Smith, Birin Smith, Caylee Smith, Cayden Dibble and Keenan Dibble; one great-granddaughter, Lily McGinley; sister, Penny Henson of Texas; brothers, Kenny (Darlene) Smith of Texas, Douglas (Kay) Smith of South Carolina, Terry (Debbie) Smith of Texas; sister-in-law, Penny Smith of Louisianna; brother-in-law, Scott Richer of Oneida and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Smith.

Funeral services will be held 1PM, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 12-1PM, prior to the funeral service. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
