Sue, I don't know what will happen with the site, there is no reason why we can't keep it as long as we want. After the reunion I'll probably ask for donations to keep it going though, unfortunately I setup the site 1 day after they decided to start a monthly fee.

Tim, I don't have any preference on what we use for discussions. It is just my anal retentive self shining through.

Doug Meyers & Mick Sansone both said they were coming to the reunion, neither has a computer but both live in Oneida. I don't have a current address for Larry Winters, I left a message with his sister but I never got a reply. Some of the others, I know they probably received a notice, but really if someone is interested they know it is our 40th year and if they were interested I would think it wouldn't be too hard to find out the details from friends, relatives or the internet.

I finally got hold of Larry Williams, by phone, as he doesn't have a computer. He says he'll be coming and will get Bob Page to come too.

Rob;
I was curious about the High School and City tour you are proposing. Will we have to hoof it or will you be driving a tour bus with the Mayor doing the narration? :)

07/02/09 09:23 AM #139

Rob Kinsella

Well, I called the High School and they said they could give a walking tour in the morning of August 1st and I need to call them about a week ahead. As far as a tour of the city, it was something some of the other classes have done, but the more I think about it, I am not sure what would be the attraction. I would think that the people from out of town would have transportation and would be more interested in their old neighborhoods or friends and would be better off checking out the area themselves.

Rob,Tim

Damn, I have a cooler full of beer. I was hoping for a canoe trip down Oneida Creek with out the paddle.

07/02/09 07:24 PM #141

John Brophy (Brophy)

I was kind of hoping the tour of Oneida would be a motorcade of open cars following the mosquito spraying truck.

Donna Aber

Hey Guys got some pretty funny stuff there. Tim might not be able to respond, he was the leader behind the truck.. Dennis I remember alot of "stuff" floating in the creek, use to float by in my innertube, amazing never got sick lol

07/02/09 10:02 PM #143

Rob Kinsella

Dennis, I do have a kayak and I do believe they have fixed the little floaties that were there. I too miss the old mosquito sprayer, although I was always careful to hold my breath when riding through it. I'm pretty sure there are no residual effects from that, I know our public servants would never expose us to toxins.

And, I see there is no reason to organize a tour of Oneida, as people have some excellent ideas on how to "take a trip down memory lane" all by themselves.

07/02/09 10:49 PM #144

Tim Thomas

Now there are some great ideas! Dennis and his canoe full of beer could drift down to meet John and the mosquito truck motorcade over at Sue's sewage plant where after a quick tour we could zip down to Sandy's Cozy Corner in Donna's speedy Chevy Nova to plan the nights festivities which might just include a walkabout of the Mount Hope mud puddle, a visit to Kathy's garden, a tour of the Pits where Rob could give a short speech on the virtues of being a Bates Ave Bomber and finally, an evening ending bonfire that burns down the rest of the old casket factory.

07/03/09 09:54 AM #145

Rob Kinsella

The Bates Ave Bombers do not really have any redeeming values, so it will be a very short speech.

I just wanted to let all the folks who have moved away know that there is a web site where you can order Grandma Brown's baked beans, Hoffman franks, and many other central NY delicacies. its at:

www.tasteofcny.com

John,

Thanks for the site on Grandmas baked beans. Now if Rob could get them served at the reunion everyone could orchestrate their own tunes, then step outside for a breath of fresh Oneida air.......

Happy 4th everyone!

Robert Vandenheuvel

Is it true we're having a dj at the reunion with nothing but Sly and the Family Stone 8 tracks?

07/05/09 12:08 PM #150

Rob Kinsella

Sly will be there, but without the family stone.

07/06/09 06:22 AM #151

Robert Vandenheuvel

Rob--are you gonna sing "Gloria"?

I like Gloria and Here comes the Night-but my favorite van Morrison song is "Into the Mystic"

What did you thnk of his country cd?

Reunion question--is there going to be any kind of dress code/expectation for the reunion?

07/06/09 06:26 AM #152

Robert Vandenheuvel

Guess my lack of "cool" is showing-I know who the Pitmen were-at least a lot of them- but who were the Bates Avenue Bombers?

07/06/09 09:12 AM #153

Rob Kinsella

I could sing Gloria, but I am pretty much tone deaf, so I don't think that would be good.

There is no dress code, other than Lizard or Jeff Behr are not allowed to show up in a dress. Whatever you are comfortable in is fine, unless it is something like boxer shorts, that would not be good for most of us. The expectation is to have fun and re-connect with classmates.

The Bates Ave Bombers were a rival group to the Pitmen, they were kind of like wanta-be Pitmen. It was basically the group of guys who hung out with Mark Cavanagh, Doug Meyers, Pete Catalano, etc. who grew up on Bates Ave. We would have a Turkey Bowl football game at Thanksgiving and a Reindeer Bowl around Christmas in the snow. Then we would go out drinking after that, but never the Pits, as much as they tried we never would show them where that was.

Dennis King

Rob,

No problem on the dress. Someone said THONGS were in season, along with cowboy boots. Don't tempt me!!!!!!!

Sue Sochan (Welty)

Dennis , Tim Thomas mentioned something about a thong too! Maybe you could organize a Full Monty kind of thing for everyone's entertainment!
