Grove W. Havener, Jr., 69, of Oneida, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's at Betsy Ross Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center where he had been a resident since December 2017.He was born on August 17, 1951, in Oneida, the son of Grove W. and Marguerite Albanese Havener, Sr. Grove was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1969. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree from SUNY Cortland and his master’s degree from Syracuse University.Grove was a teacher for Jamesville-Dewitt High School for thirty-three years where he taught Earth Science, Physics, and Calculus. He retired in 2006.He was an avid bicyclist and loved softball, basketball, golf, and tennis. Grove was a huge fan of Syracuse University athletics.Surviving are one son, Peter Havener, of Fayetteville; a sister, Anna Marie (Glenn) Pallas, of Verona; the mother of his son, Jane Otto Jasinski; his three nieces, Lisa (Corey) Mosher, of Hamilton, Lauren Pallas (Nolan Wiginton), of North Syracuse, and Lindsay Pallas (Edin Ljuca), of Syracuse; his former wife, Tina Havener; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Grove was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Havener.Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021, at 10:00 AM at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., where the Rev. Christopher Ballard will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Agatha’s Cemetery, Canastota. Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home, 342 Main Street, Oneida. RIP Pitmen. Will always remember driving to high school in that giant DeSoto your dad gave you and our tours of the hills with brother Pitmmen. Til we meet again friend.

Grove was one of the sweetest guys I have ever known.  So sad to hear of his passing.  My Dad had Alzheimer's Disease.  I can't imagine     RIP Grove

Grove had an amazing mind.  He could memorize numbers at a glance. Sad to learn that he had to deal with that awful disease.
