
ONEIDA >> Douglas J. "Big Daddy" Meyers, 62, of Union Street, passed away on Saturday evening, May 24, 2014 at his residence.
Born in Oneida on July 11, 1951, he was the son of Robert H. and Jean Eastman Meyers. A lifelong resident of the area, Doug was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1969 and earned his associate's degree from Delhi.
Doug has been employed by H. P. Hood as a lab technician for the past 34 years. He was an avid sports fan, holding a special love for the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. Doug was a race horse enthusiast and one of the kindest people you would ever meet. He had many friends that he held close to his heart and was a loyal friend. Most considered him to be a "gentle giant."
Surviving are: his mother, Jean Meyers of Oneida; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Virginia and Charles Pendleton of Oneida and Pamela and Robert West of Clockville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert S. Meyers and Sue Nichols of Peterboro, Donald and Lisa Meyers of Soquel, Calif. and Richard and Lee Meyers of Pratts Hollow; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his father on June 17, 2012 and a brother Thomas in 1971.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday from the First Presbyterian Church, corner of Broad and Stone streets, Oneida, with the Rev. Stuart Wattles, officiating. Interment will be made in Glenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Oneida All Sports Booster's Club.
