A couple of "fond" memories of Charlie-

Once in High School we decided to do the Ferris Bueller thing--years before Ferris-and Charlie and I got to school, hiked to the railroad tracks, caught a freight train to the wilds otherwise known as Canastota-where we hung out for the day thinking we were real desperados--then we caught anotther train coming back to Oneida--what a wild time we had!

Charlie and I were both die hard Yankee fans even though they sucked big time in the mid to late 60's--that being bad enough-for what ever reason Charlie decided his favorite player on the team was Ruben Amaro.  For any baseball fan from the time--no explanation is required as to my bewilderment!

Charlie and I used to go bowling sometimes, and it was usually a duel to the finish where a 121 might beat a 118--but one night Charlie had on magic slippers or something-and he bowled about a 620 three game set--needless to say I was massacred--probably somewhere around 350-360.--never saw Charlie bowl like that before or after--but that was his night

In Aunt Dots history class-neither Charlie or I had bothered doing our homework--when Dot decided to ask questions about the assignment.  Well she  called on Charlie who sat right in front of me--and with a little help from me and some fancy footwork on his part--Charlie pretended to read off a long, pretty good answer.  As he sighed in relief, Aunt Dot said, "Charles that was excellent--would you read it again?"  As he hemmed and hawed--Charlie was literally saved by the bell--as we hurried to our next class
