Just want to say thank you for fighting for our country. Even though you were gone too soon, you will never be forgotten. And I will always remember getting to know you and our first date. Miss you friend and rest in peace Darius!

Darius was one of the coolest people i've ever met. I remember working together at the W/D. He made work fun! We would laugh throughout the ship, get in trouble and didnt care at all. Darius was a workaholic too. He would come in for everyone who didnt show up, worked in ALL of the departments, and volunteered to stay late. He put W/D out of business because they had to pay so much in overtime, lol. It hurt me when I got the phone call from another co-worker saying he was gone. Darius will never be forgotten. His ultimate sacrifice is the we have the freedoms and luxuaries we have now. Rest on Darius, for I know you are fighting in God's Army now.

I was one of the fortunate ones and probably the only one from our class to see Darius before the aircraft he was riding on was shot down. Before then, I had not seen him since High School and further more, I had no idea he was even in the military.

I worked in the post office at our camp out there, and once he found out that someone was there from Orangeburg, he made it his business to find out who. (His unit was out of Colorado.)

Darius and I built a close bond very fast and he was so excited about finishing up our deployment so that he could go to college and pursue photography. He often told me how the military changed him for the better and the change was very visible.

A couple of days before the incident, Darius gave me some pictures of him..just to look through. The last time I saw him, I remembered I still had his pictures and before he left, I told him to hold on while I go and grab them. He said (with his cool self), "Aye hold on to them for me." I asked him if he was sure and he said, "Yea yea, hold on to them for me." I did.

Darius, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY! I never got the chance to tell you, but it felt good having someone from home with me in a place so far away from home. Love you Man...

Im not sure if people knew how close Darius and I were.  When he came to O-W up until he enrolled in the service, we spoke practically every day.  We lost touch for a about a year then reconnected while he was stationed near Shatekia.  I recall speaking to him 2 days before he was killed.  So when I came from out of town and was told of what happened, I was in denial about it.  Then it hit like a ton of bricks that I would never see him or speak to him again.  Darius had grown so much from high school.  The armed forces shaped him into a promising young man ready to give back to his community.  Anyone who really knew him, knew that he was a jovial person and tried to be friends with everyone.  Darius LOVED THE LADIES !!! LOL.....  Not a day goes by that I dont think about my friend.  I miss him dearly, but he gave his life for the protection of this country.  God knows best and I cant argue with that.  Shatekia gave the pictues he left behind to me and I turned them over to his mother.  Keep his mother in your prayers...grieving sometimes can be a never ending process.
