Daniel John Jones
1945 ~ 2015
"Carpe Diem" Seize the day! With love, honor, and respect we celebrate the life of Daniel John Jones, son of Carl and Leona Holder Jones, born June 18, 1945. Seventy years of loving his family, serving the Lord, making friendships and setting and reaching goals is how Dan seized each day. Dan attended Orem High School and graduated in 1963. He served a LDS Mission in New York from 1964-1966. Later, he attended and graduated from BYU with a Bachelor's of Science. Dan obtained a Master's degree in Counseling, Sociology and Criminology from Ball State. Dan traveled the world serving God and country with the United States Air Force as an OSI agent, Intelligence Officer and ROTC instructor at the University of Utah. Captain Jones was fluent in German and loved learning about other cultures. Dan also worked twenty years with the United States Postal Service and upon "retirement" continued to work and be successful for A+ Elevators and Lifts as Vice President with record sales. Dan loved horses and was a President of the Utah Arabian Horse Club Association. He was a master gardener, storyteller, and taught college courses in marriage and counseling. Dan enjoyed time on his ranch hunting, hiking, and four-wheeling with family and friends. Recently, Dan was honored as BYU Football Thursday's Hero. He married Linda Penrod in 1966, and had five children: Lisa, son Courtney, Tiffany, Deidre and Rachel. He married Kaye Barney in 1990 and together they had daughter Danielle. He later reconnected with his high school sweetheart and eternal soulmate, Sheryl Hansen, and married on April 13, 1996. They are being sealed November 7, 2015, in the Bountiful Temple. Dan was passionate about life and lived it fully and with depth, truly "sucking the marrow out of life," as Thoreau and Dan would say. A wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend and teacher, who will be missed and forever loved by all. Dan is preceded in death by his father, Carl Jones. He is survived by his mother, Leona, and two brothers, Robert and Walt, his children: Lisa, Courtney, Tiffany, Deidre, Rachel, Danielle, Keri, Cindy, Ryan, Wendee, and Chris; his 34 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Lakeview Memorial Mortuary & Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah on Wednesday, November 4th, from 6:00 -8:00 pm, as well as a brief viewing an hour before the service and a funeral service at noon on Thursday, November 5th, at the LDS church located at 840 North 800 West, West Bountiful, Utah.
