Judy Lynette Backus

Judy Lynette Backus returned to her heavenly home surrounded by her loving husband and children on Friday, July 19, 2019. Judy was born on May 14, 1945 to Gerald and Francis Pyne in Pensacola, Florida.

Her younger years consisted of life on the family fruit farm in Orem, Utah; she was the oldest child and enjoyed growing up with her brothers and sister. Judy was an Orem High graduate, while a student she was engaged in extracurricular activities, working on yearbook staff and performing as a Tigerette. Later on, Judy was a member of the Young Ambassadors program at BYU as well as a participant in the Hill Cumorah pageant as a young adult.

On December 3, 1965, Judy married the love of her life, Richard Backus, in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity. They have shared a life together for over 53 years and have left a legacy of six children, 20 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Judy was a righteous and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions of service including ordinance worker at the Provo temple and the organist at the Mt. Timpanogas Temple.

Judy loved music, especially the Tabernacle Choir which she had playing in the home daily.

She had a green thumb and adored peonies, snowballs, roses , baby’s-breath and ferns.  She enjoyed hard work and slept very little—her hands were well acquainted with scalding water to ensure that her home was always clean and spotless.

An engaged and loving mother, Judy served as President of the Parent Teacher Association at Scera Park Elementary.  Beyond community and church service, Judy was a party planner at heart and has most likely accepted a new calling in heaven as an event planner complete with Disney stand-up figures and carousel horses. She was a ministering angel to those that knew her and lived a life full of enthusiasm and passion. She was always the first to volunteer to enjoy a ride on the go cart, tote gote, or pool toy that the grandchildren were excited to play with.

Family Gatherings at Moms house were always epic, complete with games and extraordinary prizes for winners—from $50 tied to a pool ring to life size teddy bears.  Judy loved to bake and prepare meals to ensure that everyone enjoyed their favorite food and left her house with a full stomach.  Roast beef dinner was always a favorite that she prepared every Sunday without fail.   She could prepare a 5-course meal for the masses in 20 minutes or less with the oven at 500 degrees.  She believed that every day should start with a hot breakfast in addition to her full-size brown bag sack lunches that took all day to eat and always included notes of positive affirmations.  She enjoyed filling storage shelves with beautiful jars of fruit each fall.

We may notify JC Penney, Startups Candy Sucker Company, Crispy Crème Donuts,  Dunford Bakery, Chuck-a-Rama, Coke and The Dollar Store that they may experience a sizeable reduction in their revenue with her passing!

Her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. Her grandchildren felt special when she was with them. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she will be dearly missed.

She is lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses:
