Vern Alma

Stratton

1952 ~ 2012

Vern Alma Stratton, our beloved father, son, brother, grandpa and friend was called home Saturday October 20, 2012. He passed from this life at his parents home in the orchard that he loved and worked in all of his life, surrounded by those who loved him.

Vern Alma was born on his grandmother's kitchen table on May 26, 1952, in Orem, Utah. He was the second of eight children born to Vern and Joann Stratton.

Vern Alma led a full and miraculous life and was often said to have had at least nine lives. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, skier and jack of all trades. Above all he was a farmer and loved the land. He was most often found in the orchard in Santaquin, pruning, picking, thinning, spraying or napping under a peach tree. He loved to work with his family teaching them how important it is to do a job well and enjoy what you do. He liked the hustle and bustle of the greenhouse, selling fruit at farmers market and the cold nights at the Christmas tree lot. He was kind, enjoyed helping those in need and had a huge heart.

He considered his greatest accomplishment that of being a father. He loved his children deeply and will be thought of and remembered as a man who would do anything for them. Vern Alma is survived by his three children, Ryan, Catlin and Katie Jo; nine grandchildren, Xander, Brandt, Taven, Aspen, Carter, Berkley, Davis, Keegan and Emersyn; his parents; seven brothers and sisters, Joan, Kimball, Annette, Carl, Kenny, Sherry and Sue; and twenty-six nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his son Vern A. whom he spoke of often and looked forward to seeing again. Vern's last words in this life were "I'm happy" and "hug," which were undoubtedly being spoken to his son who was the first to greet him as he passed.

There will be a viewing from held Friday, October 26, 2012 at 10-11:30 at the Walker Family Funeral Home 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah, with funeral services to follow at 12:00 noon.
