I had to go back to our yearbook to do some thinking about Cliff. He was in my homeroom--I remember him as being very bright, maybe kind of quiet, and I didn't know him well. Here's what he put in the '79 yearbook:

"I suppose the sky never learned about blue, the sun about light, or love about you. I do not feel obliged to believe the God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forego their use." - Galileo Galilei

Beautiful words, Cliff, which I never read until now.

I first met Cliff in the sixth grade at Nall Hills Elementary. He was extremely funny, eccentric, and very intelligent. We were in the same Scout Troop, #486. Campouts were never dull with Cliff along. He nearly burned down our tent during a snowstorm. For some reason he had seen fit to bring a propane torch along and insisted on lighting inside our tent.

We stayed friends through junior high school and at South, but I lost track of him for awhile after graduation. I finally ran into him, and Cliff introduced me to his wife. It was only a year or two later that I got a call from Dave Nelson telling me that Cliff had died. I don't know the cause of death. I particularly felt for his parents as they had already lost another son, Cliff's older brother. Anyhow, thanks for the fun memories and rest in peace.
