Nick, Steve Wilcox, Joe Gonzales and I went through five years of Spanish together. We got away with a lot of stuff and actually learned a little Espanol along the way.
Vedros was practicing law and I was a practicing CPA and we had a mutual client that we were working on to get out of bankruptcy. He had come back from his first episode, but it was not the same Vedros I remembered from SMS and Nallwood. He was very intelligent and an upstanding member of the bar.
Yes, Steve, I too remember those Spanish classes with Senora Willitts! What a knucklehead that Nick was. And that goofy grin of his. I still smile whenever I remember him. Gone too soon is right.
I think we were responsible for Sra. Seible's retirement! Sra. Willits seemed to like us though! Nick was a great guy and had an incredible sense of humor. Those were some fun and simple days.
I remember Nick in Senora Willits class as well. Hew was pretty funny. That was a fun group in that class. I think he was involved with the Spanish dance competition in Wichita. That was a trip!
Oh my goodness--Spanish class and Mrs. Willits! I was telling my son about some of the antics in our Spanish class about two weeks ago. So sorry to hear about Nick.
Nick Vedros had a talent to make a face or an outrageous comment that would take you immediately out of your thoughts and into laughing out loud. The many times I remember him joking in the hallways...and people around him just started laughing -it had to be a daily thing. I remember him once telling a story at lunch about how the real Beaver and Wally -Jerry Mathers and Tony Dow were in town for a play and they were painting a house in their neighborhood. Nick said they drove by yelling "Hey Wally, hey Beav!" out of the car window over and over. When those of us at the lunch table said, "NO WAY!! THAT WASN'T REALLY THEM," I still remember his eyes bugging out and him saying ***YES IT WAS!*** Later we found out it WAS true. ha He was not mean-spirited and had a way of endearing himself to others with these stories. At the 10th reunion they had a special "No Way' award for the person that did something with their lives you didn't quite expect. Nick won that award for becoming a lawyer. I remember him going up to the microphone and saying something funny, which had everyone laughing. He still had his sense of humor. He was loved by a lot of people. Shortly after the reunion, I remember reading quotes by him in the Overland Park Sun as he was prosecuting scam artists. He was saying something like this guy has scammed from one side of the city to the other! I smiled when I read the story because I could hear his voice in my head. It wasn't long after that that I heard he passed away.
