Steve died shortly after graduation when he was returning from Lawrence on old K 10, the two lane that went through DeSoto and Sunflower out past S-M Park. He failed to negotiate a turn, and died in the accident.
I know the road all to well as after my sophmore year of college in Texas my parents moved to Lake Quivira. Was weekly when there were sirens from accidents and at night the road was treacherous. To early to die he had a great smile and was very nice, tragic loss.
