Rodney was very talented musically, and played the piano for our music class one time.  I'm afraid that my other memories....of how he was treated....are not so good.  I distinctly remember him being cornered by a group of boys on the bridge and they pitched pennies at him.  I thought it was terrible, but I did nothing myself to stop it.  He was made fun of all the time. Rodney, rest in peace.  I wish I had stood up for you.

Rod, as we called him, was a great, gentle guy.  We, Bob & I, got to meet him & his family when we we around the age of 10.  His family attended our church & his mother was our Cub Scout Den Mother.  His parents were very good with Rod, as was his brother George.  They did not treat him any differently than anyone else, other than they had to stay vigilent about his health & how his enlarged head could affect him physically.  In our group Rod was an equal.  No one treated him differently, but we did watch out for him.  We were certain he would be "made fun of", but I don't know any of us close to him ever witnessed such behavior.  He & his family were wonderful, strong Christian people.  They did not ask why, they just enjoyed life together.  A great inspiration.  Rod was the type of person who shoud be missed.

One of the things I remember most about Rodney was the talent show we had and the piano piece he composed and played for us.  I was completely in awe of his talent!  I also remember taking Latin with him for four years and how helpful he would be to me when I would get stuck translating something.  He was gracious and kind, always.  And, brave.

Rodney had a big impact on my life....why so, well, why was I the way I was and He the way he was.  Rodney had no choice in how he was with the "water on the brain" he received at birth and would he ever be able to have what I would call a "normal" life.......i.e. what we call normal. This hugely impacted me into looking into the Bible and finding out the equalization and what should be normalicy.  Thank heavens I did and found out. Can't wait to see you all in Oct.  Nancy Damm, can't wait to see you, memories are crazy and  I love them.

I too remember Rod's musical talent. I remember thinking I could study piano for years and never reach his level! Amazing individual.

You all are so nice.  I wish so very badly that Rod's family could view your comments.  They were wonderful people.  You all would have loved them, and them you.

Amen to all that has been said.

Rod was one of the "nice" guys.  Rest in peace, dear friend.

I guess I may have known Rodney as well as anyone.  I knew him at our church, St Marks Methodist, and know that he was very strong in his faith,  But I really got to know Rodney when I went to college at KU and he was one of my roommates my freshman year in our Fraternity, Theta Tau.  Rodney loved people and was incredibly patient with other's intolerance of his condition (s).   We could all learn something from him about what it takes to be an adult and a man; he was all of that indeed!
