Charlie made being in the band so much fun!  He had such a great sense of humor and was more than happy to share it with fellow band members.  I cannot remember any specifics; I only know that when I think of Charlie, I always smile.

My memory of Charlie comes from time in the band also.  Eventhough Charlie was first clarinet and I was last chair, we had a lot of fun in our clarient quartet.  He was so patient that I always tried my best when playing with him.  I'm sure his smile is missed by many.

Again, my memories are of a cheery guy who always had a smile.  Know he and Mr. Circle would keep us all upbeat!

I didn't know Charlie in high school, though I knew who he was.  I became aquainted with him later because he was very good friends with Ed Callaway and Ed's older brother is very good friends with my husband.  There were a lot of tennis games among these guys and over the years I came to learn that Charlie was passionate about three things: music, tennis and cars.  From the time Charlie became ill and until his passing, it was truly amazing to witness the devoted circle of friends, from those three categories, who were there for him as his condition worsened.  He had a huge support group and enjoyed the time spent with each individual.  Charlie was very realistic and matter-of-fact about his condition and had no interest in any services after he was gone. Instead, he chose to bring those friends together before he died.  Charlie was great at telling a good story and would have us practically rolling on the floor laughing.  We miss him!

Met Charlie at Overland Park Christian Church and the youth group. The usual suspects from Milburn were together with the Broadmore crowd. It worked out well as us Milburnites already were aquanted with a lot of Broadmore group.

I remember one night after Sunday youth group we had a drag race that Charlie instagated between Dan Combs and me. Dan's 54 Ponitiac three on the tree streight eight and my 62 four banger Ford Falcon automatic. He rode with Dan and Mike Gilland (SMW 66) and I believe Jim Coiner rode with me. If any money exchanged hands I do not remember since I won my only drag race. I t did not pay well.

Later on Charlie enjoyed visiting us in God's Waiting Room, a.k.a., Florida in Destin. He always helped with projects so much he took over and asked me to remove myself since I was a deterrant to his work. He enjoyed the emerald water and the sugar white sand. Everytime I now winter in GWR I think of Charlie and his companion ship.. On night he engaged in a comidy routine with another friend from the area on compariny their several devorces. I wish I had that on tape.

As with the many other friends he knew he will be missed by all of us.

Ron
