Obituary from Sierra Sun, January 6, 2009

Christine “Kris” Reeder, 59, died on Dec. 24, 2008 at her home in Libby, Mont.

She was born Oct. 26, 1949, in San Gabriel, Calif. Her family moved to Palmdale, Calif., in 1954. In her senior year at Palmdale High School she was a student worker for Judge Wright in the Lancaster Court House.

She graduated from California Lutheran College in Encino, Calif., and taught grade school for several years, earning the distinction of teaching her second graders fractions.

Missing family, she moved to Nevada City, Calif., and purchased a home. While there she worked for Grass Valley Group in electronics. To further her career, she attended college at night studying electrical engineering. She eventually purchased a home in Lake Tahoe. Her two best friends of 25 years, Jan McHugh and Chris Donaldson moved in with her and shared the work.

Kris worked for Sierra Design Labs. She made the quick frames that made the Shrek movie, among others. She soon became manufacturing manager.

Later, her health failing, she traveled to Sausalito, Calif. to see specialists. She was advised to quit work and sold her home to recuperate in Mexico. Kris returned to Libby and purchased a home, where Jan and she remodeled.

Kris enjoyed Palmdale High School reunions, and was a talented musician, playing piano and guitar. She wrote lyrics and music to 47 songs, authored two novels, was a stained glass artist and did wood carving. She excelled at everything she did.

She is survived by her parents, Connie and Erv Reeder of Libby, aunts Lilian O’Banion, Pat Litchfield, Marge Hammer, Donna Hammer and Ethola Porch; Uncle Randolph Hammer and many beloved cousins.

She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her for the vibrant and loveing person she was.

It is her wish there be no funeral service. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.
