Scott P. Fessenden, 40, a longtime resident of Palo Alto, died April 3 after complications resulting from a brain tumor. Born Nov. 25, 1961 in Providence, R.I., he attended grade school in Corvallis, Ore. before moving to Palo Alto in 1972. He attended Ventura Elementary School, Terman Junior High and graduated from Gunn High School in 1980. He attended UC Davis from 1980 to 1986. He loved the outdoors and had a reverence for all living things. He worked for the city of Palo Alto as a tree inspector for three years before disability forced him to retire in 2001. Prior to that he did wide ranging forestry work in the high mountains of California, Oregon, Washington and Montana, after several years with the Stanford Recycling Center. He also volunteered with Wildlife Rescue. His brain tumor was discovered in 1983. He fought the disease valiantly for more than 19 years, not once complaining about life with a brain tumor. His positive attitude played a large role in his quality of life and he counseled many with other diseases and those stricken with grief.
