Kevin was killed in a plane crash. He was a flight instructor and the plane went down in the Colorado Rocky Mtn.s. (Feb 1984). Because of the snow the accident was not investigated until about a month or two after it occurred. Once the crash was surveyed it was confirmed that there had been a struggle in the cockpit and a suicide note written by the student was found. Kevin had been accepted to train as an astronaut and was scheduled to move to Florida to begin a lifelong dream of his... I think of him often. I have stayed in touch with his parents over the years, they live in Halfmoon Bay (sp?). Kevin was their only child.
Thank you for adding context. What a tragedy for the family! Kevin was a very sweet guy and it made me so sad to hear about his death when we were so young.
When Kevin and I were in the minority of kids that didn't go away to college after graduation, he and I hung out a lot together. I have very good memories of what a gentle, sweet guy he was...and funny! Like many of us, he needed to get out of PA to recreate himself, which he did in such an impressive, focused way (an astronaut? I didn't know that Margo). A real heartbreaking tragedy what happened to him. As a mother of only one child I cannot even imagine the grief his parents have endured with his life shortened the way it was. I still think about him often.
Kevin and I were together at Univ of Colorado-Boulder along with Maile Buker. He was so sweet and happy each time we talked. He did recreate himself. Such a major loss! He was one of the good ones...RIP Kevin !
