I recall ancient memories of seeing Carol, we called her affectionately Carol "Critter" Crittenden, at the Winter Club ice rink in Palo Alto. She was outgoing, funny and friendly. (Forgot to say, we were twelve years old at the time)

I also have ancient memories of Carol. I agree, Jeff, she was funny and outgoing. I wish we knew more about her life beyond these ancient times.
Carol lived across the street on Parkside, so we played together a lot pre-kindergarten and after school. Our Parkside gang included Lonni Jones and Laurie Smith. I remember the treehouse in her side yard as a favorite place to play. Carol, her older brother Dick, and younger sister Gail were all adopted. I remember her mother was so kind (and a great baker of cookies)--she was named Virginia, too, same as my mom. Funny how I can remember the floor plans of those Eichler homes like I'd been there yesterday, knowing just which room was Carol's.
In high school, Carol and I worked together at the Earring House at Mayfield Mall, a kiosk with mostly beaded earrings and some hammered brass, all the rage. We felt pretty grown up to have real jobs, making earrings and selling them.
