Pampa's two high schools

At one time Pampa had two high schools: Pampa High School and Washington Carver High School. In 1962-1963, the high school students from Carver High School were integrated into Pampa High School. Carver continued to house the junior high school students until 1965. Only the elementary students stayed there until the school building closed after the 1967-1968 school year.

 

When the Class of 1965 attended school in Pampa, there were 2 junior high schools and 7 elementary schools. Some of these schools are still standing, but several have been demolished.

 

The Junior High Schools were:

Pampa Junior High School (was the first Pampa High School back in the early 1900s) - demolished

Robert E. Lee Junior High School - demolished

 

The Elementary Schools were named for Texas heros. They are:

Stephen F. Austin Elementary School - in use

Baker Elementary School - demolished

Sam Houston Elementary School - demolished

M.B. Lamar Elementary School - in use

Horace Mann Elementary School - demolished

William B. Travis Elementary School - in use

Woodrow Wilson Elementary School - in use
