The Harvester-1965 Annual

The Harvester Annual - 1965

Carolyn Tucker (Shelton) was the Editor-in-Chief of The Harvester. Our annual was awarded the top Columbia Scholastic Press Association Medalist rating and Honor Award at the West Texas High School Press Association at Texas Tech in Lubbock. At the Texas High School Press Association Convention in Denton, the 1965 yearbook won State Champion award in its class. Other Class of 1965 members of the yearbook staff included Carletta (Jodi) Johnson (Taylor) - Clubs Editor, Glennette Dawkins (Goode) - Activities Editor, Sharron Michaels (Feese) - Associate Editor, Phil Hall - Art Editor and Nancy Holt (Cates) - Associate Art Editor.

The theme of the annual was "In Our Time" and various topics included "A Time to Dedicate...to Remember...to Reap...to Sow." Below, is what the introductory page states ...

In Our Time

We campaigned and voted, while our parents elected Lyndon B. Johnson President of the United States.

We mourned the death of Pampa's benefactor and philanthropist ... Montague Kingsmill Brown.

We flew our flag at half-mast for the 26th President of the United States ... Herbert Clark Hoover.

We warily watched the world's events as the Soviet Union changed leaders, as Red China exploded her first nuclear bomb, as Harold Wilson became Prime Minister of England and the Labor Party came to power.

We watched our Victory Flag flutter proudly at the top if its new gold pole.

We welcomed our own Randy Matson home from the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

We laughed often and talked a lot ... we hoped and worked and won ... we learned and grew and taught.

The warm rays of Pampa High School became as vital to our lives as

The dawning sun to a ripening wheat field of the Texas Panhandle.

... and with that, look at the beautiful view of the sun rising on the horizon found on the cover of the 1965 annual ... The Harvester!
