This guy.... I used to deck hand with him on the Davis Queen Fleet. He once ate a raw cigar minnow. He was the funniest and the best. I am certain he and my dad started talking fishing stories and about "old yellar" this past December.
Thanks, Rebecca, the Davis Fleet was the key for a story about James.
Jimmy Lowrey and I decided we were going off shore to catch some grouper in my Dad's 15ft ski boat. Jimmy had an ID that he could use at the Jr. Food Store on Beck Ave. in St. Andrews to buy beer. So I docked our version of a fishing boat next to those giant fleet boats. So Jimmy runs over to the store to get the beer and I'm on the boat trying to rig up the poles with a bottom fishing rig. Well I'm as green as I can get, trying to tie all the knots and make sure I use the correct barrel weight with the right hook. James Andrews is over loading one of those fleet boats with supplies and see's me struggling. He comes running over, jumps in my boat with all kinds of rigs ready to go and in about two minutes has us all rigged up and ready. He asks what are we using for bait...I say beer! What, they won't just bite the hook for us? And off James runs and brings me a bag of cigar minnows and shows me how to hook them on the hook. About that time Jimmy shows up with two cases of beer and sees what all James has done for us. Good thing we had two medium ice chests on board or James would have had to take more than the two six packs we gave him for his help. Jimmy and I didn't catch any fish that day but James Andrews got two new friends! Thank you for your service to our country, James! And may God bless you and your family.
