John was one of the first friends I made after moving to Lynn Haven.  There was something about his personality that appealed to everyone.  John was a lot of fun to be around, a quick wit, kind heart, strong character, and sometimes daring.

About daring ... Eigth grade at Mowat, we were standing under some oak trees near the gymnasium, minding our own business, someone dared John to yell, "Atta Boy Erby" which he did.  Little did we know, the principal, Mr. E .B. Nixon, was in full stride headed toward the Band Room.  John wouldn't intentionally be disrespectful to anyone.  Trouble just found us that day!

John had an awesome family.  He lived near a body of water at North Bay we referred to as "The Bayou."  The water became his passion.  His family was his life.

I saw John at the 20th reunion.  He told me he was a Merchant Seaman, a mariner, how cool ... is that!

Thanks for the memories John, I'm glad you chose me as your friend.
