Tommy Eads

Dr. Tommy Glover Eads (MS ’76)—June 19. He passed away in Winston-Salem, NC where he was conducting a teacher training workshop in mathematics. He taught mathematics in North Lamar ISD, Paris, TX since 1978 and has been technology coordinator for the district since 1986. He was the recipient of the Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High School Teachers in 1995 and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 1986 and 1989.
 

 

 


 

 

 

Tommy Glover Eads
1947 – 2002
Tommy Eads was born on February 5, 1947 in Bonham, Texas. He was a graduate of
Fannindel High School in Ladonia, Texas, received his B.B.A. degree from the
University of Texas at Austin and was awarded his M.S. degree at East Texas State
university. Tommy earned his doctorate at the University of Denver with a specialization
in Gifted and Talented Education.
Tommy taught at Fannindel High School and in the North Lamar Independent School
District. He taught at the post-secondary level at the Paris Junior College, The University
of Texas at Tyler, and at East Texas State University. Tommy was also a research
assistant at the University of Denver.
Tommy was active in mathematics education at the state level. He served as an original
member of the Texas Education Agency’s Mathematics Curriculum Committee, the
Evaluation Committee for the Exit-Level Mathematics TAAS Test, the Advisory
Committee for Mathematics Staff Development Modules, and the Geometry/Algebra/Pre-
Calculus Textbook Committee. Tommy also served as an Exhibits Chairperson for the
Texas Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching (CAMT).
Besides his talents as a mathematician and teacher, Tommy was an active member of his
church, and loved all kinds of music. He was a talented musician and served as the
organist for several churches.
Tommy Eads was a well-known T3 (Teachers Teaching with Technology) Instructor and
workshop leader. His expertise was widely respected throughout North America. He was
awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching in 1986, and
again in 1989.
Tommy died June 19, 2002. He is survived by his wife JoNel Semple Eads, daughter,
Jerica, and two sons, Jeremy and Josh.
