I first met George when I came here to start 8th grade in 1959, he was friendly and outgoing, we became friends through the year. He was always happy go lucky. We went to h.s. and found new friends but we still stayed good friends, we would meet in the hallways and have a little something to say to each other , it made my life a little better having known him,so my friend Rest In Peace and l will see you later

So sorry to hear about George's passing.  We knew each other from about third grade, and as Mcguin said, George was always happy and cheerful.  He was also quite talented, having sung in several of the choirs at R.E., and appeared in a numuber of the musical plays.  Rest in peace my friend, for now you sing with the heavenly chior.

George and I met in 7th grade at Matteson Elementary.  We were in Mrs. Cleary's class in 8th grade and he liked to make fun of her adjusting her girdle even into recent years. I spent time with him the day before he left for the Army.  We remained close friends all these years and were on the same couples bowling league and went to dinner with friends.  Once I moved to Arizona, we would talk at least once a month.  Phone calls were not short -- we would talk a minimum of an hour and a half.  He would talk to me then talk to Al.  They were good friends too.  After Al passed, I made several trips to Rockton.  Barb, George and I would sit on his patio and talk for hours.  We would reminisce about everything from our years in Matteson, school days and current events.  How I loved those visits.  He was a wonderful friend and it broke my heart when he was diagnosed with dementia.  We continued to talk but I could hear the dementia taking its' toll.  It was harder and harder to talk to him because he wasn't the George I had known all these years.  His passing was a shock since he had been gone a month before I found out.  Barb thought she had called me, but she hadn't.  I found out from Faith Cook on here.

George was a wonderful person, good friend, had a great sense of humor, and was always there if I needed him before we both got married.  I will miss my dear friend of 62 years.  My heart is broken that I can never hear his voice again.  Rest in Peace My Dear Friend.  We will meet again someday!

I knew George from seventh grade.  My folks moved into their first owned house in Matteson during the summer before school started.  Riding my bike I saw George and he waved me over to a store he was going into to get a Coke.  We were friends from then on.  Kept in touch through the years.  Good friend.
