Our dear friend and fellow classmate Shawn Grover will be forever missed and we sincerely provide our deepest sympathy to his family.

Shawn Gregory Grover, 19, son of Greg and Joan Grover of Park Rapids, died Wednesday, July 12, 1989 at his home in Park Rapids after a three year battle with (Ewings Sarcoma) cancer.

Shawn was born July 10, 1970 to Gregory and Joan Grover in Detroit Lakes. He lived in Frazee until the age of one when he moved to Park Rapids with his parents. He was raised, attended school and graduated from the Park Rapids Area High School in 1988. During Shawn’s high school career, he was involved in athletic programs including Park Rapids Letterman’s Club, lettering in basketball and golf. He attained his Purple Trim in Tae-Kwon-Do. Shawn had a special love for the outdoors, which included fishing, hunting, and trapping and was a member of the Minnesota Trappers Association. He also enjoyed following the area of professional athletics and had a special love and talent for playing the piano. Shawn was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where he was baptized and confirmed.

Survivors include: his parents, Greg and Joan Grover of Park Rapids; two brothers: Josh and Abram Grover, both of Park Rapids; two grandmothers: Mrs. Viola Grover and Mrs. Cecelia Ware, both of Park Rapids; one great-grandmother; Phoebe Ryti of Park Rapids; several cousins, aunts and uncles and a host of close friends. He was preceded in death by two grandfathers and one great-grandfather.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father Frank Reid and Father Dick Kujawa officiating. Mary Lehrke will be the organist and Jim Lyons and Carol Winters will be leading the congregation in “We Gather Together” and “Sing a New Song to the Lord.” Gregory Lathe as soloist will sing “I’ll See You Down the Road” (Original Composer) and “Friends” (Michael W. Smith). Reader for the service will be Sarah Garlie.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Winter, Stephanie Thompson, Chip Soukup, Brad Van Roekel, Rachel Franklin, Lisa Josephson, Tony Mondry, Tammy Steffen, Katie Roll, Mike Peterson and DeeAnne Johanning.

Active Casketbearers will be Eric Thomason, Chris Goplerud, Chris Zitzer, Mike Grage, Tom Theisen and Jeff Eberhardt.

Interment will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. All arrangements are being handled by the Jones-Behrens Funeral a Rapids. The family prefers memorials.
