Jim was a very bright young man who was fun to hang out with.  A bit of a rascal too.  I learned of his death many years ago, far to young to pass.

jim, we called him 'jimmer,' was one of a coterie of friends that hung out in a garage on Grove St., sierra madre, in our junior and senior years. he had a laugh that elicited more laughter, and was always ready to join, if not instigate, the fun ('trips') we engaged in those days. i borrowed his beat-up faded-red volkswagen to go see linda skoro, and on the way home the engine quit. after addressing me in some endearing profanities, and laughing, he said 'it was cool.'  (i think it was the selenoid that died. hell, i know nothing about cars, then or now). there is not enough space to describe our escapades and odyessies in those days, but after high school he went off to ucla. he was bright, but his knack for fun brighter and his free-spirit always hungry for adventure. i lost contact. then one day, while doing a door-to-door canvass in concord, CA, i knocked on a door and to my shocked surprise jimmer answered. i thought it was a miracle. the story goes he and another guy fell in love with the same girl, and both married her - this was the 60's after all, 69 to be exact. jimmer was not gay, the other fella bi, and the girl was jimmer's love, it got messy, and the next thing i knew they found him dead in eaton canyon. i still have the febrary 28,1971 clipping from the star news announcing his untimely and tragic death. there was much more to the story, but he was gone and our hearts ripped apart. the old group all got together for his funeral in sierra madre and wept at the loss of our dear friend. RIP, jimmer. you made the planet an unforgettable place to be. greg

Those beautiful eyes!   He was one of my favorite people at Sierra Mesa Elementary.  He, another Jim, and I were chosen to sing for the seniors one afternoon and every time I hear "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" I think of him.  I too cried when I heard he was found gone, on the mountain.
