Edward D. Mordhorst   1943 - 2015
Edward "Ed" D. Mordhorst, 71, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at his home in Boise, ID. Ed was born November 6, 1943 in Ontario, OR to Edward Carl and Iris E. Brubaker Mordhorst. He was raised in Payette, ID and graduated from Payette High School in 1962. He went on to Boise Junior College where he earned his degree as a Civil Engineering Technician. He began his more than 44 year career with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in 1964 and retired in 2009. His career was briefly interrupted when he (as he liked to say) dodged the draft by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968 on the U.S.S. Valley Forge on the Master at Arms force. Ed was proud of his time in the Navy and Naval Reserve and loved to share stories about this time in his life.
Ed spent the last 23 year volunteering in various capacities, many of them overlapping. He served 8 years as Scout Master for Troop 49 at Whitney UMC, 12 years as the Scout's Chartered Organization Representative for Whitney UMC, and an amazing 18 years as an Eagle Scout Certifier. At his last tally he has approved over 430 Eagle Scout projects. Many of "his" Eagle Scouts have remained in contact with him in their adult years.
Ed is survived by daughter, Hallie (Jeff) Hetherington; son, Nick Mordhorst (Mars Chou); sister, Melanie (David) Entzminger; grandchildren, Kathryn and Luke Duncan, Elliana and Mikala Hetherington and an honorary granddaughter in Thailand, Eve Ueawiriyanukun. Services will be held Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Whitney UMC, 3315 W. Overland Rd. Boise, ID 83705. A viewing will precede at 1:30
.
