Philip Nathan Rich - November 9th, 1943 - June 2nd, 2024

Philip “Phil” Nathan Rich was born November 9, 1943 in Payette, Idaho and passed away June 2, 2024 in Weiser, Idaho at the age of 80. 

Phil was the 2nd child born to Don and Naomi (Griffin) Rich. He spent his childhood in Payette attending Westside Elementary, Payette Jr. High and Payette High School, class of 1962. 

On June 11, 1965, Phil married Judy Scalph in New Plymouth, ID. During their 15 year marriage they welcomed 5 children; Teresa, Philip Jr., Kristine, Shelly and Apryl. 

On September 21, 1983, Phil married Shirley Eads in Payette, Idaho. She brought three children to the marriage; Lori, David and Wendy. 

Phil was a man of many skills. He would say he was “Jack of all trades but master of none.” He went to Beauty school becoming licensed to do hair, worked at a paper mill in Albany, OR, Disc Jockeyed, and became an electrician’s apprentice. Other jobs he held included delivering flowers, Davy Trees, the infamous Jewel T, and paper route driver at the Argus Observer. 

Phil also volunteered with many organizations including the Elks Lodge, ran the clock for Payette High School basketball games and chains for the football games. He was always proud of the work that he was able to do with the class of 1962 each year during the Hope at Christmas fundraiser as well as running the New Plymouth Assembly of God food pantry for a few years. 

Phil is preceded in death by his parents; Don and Naomi Rich. Siblings: Don Rich Jr., Lois “Lisa” Malatesta, Baby James Rich, David Buller, Patsy Kuhl. Sisters-in-Law: Barbara Rich and Helen Rich. His daughter, Kristine Daniels, and wife Shirley Rich. 

Phil is survived by brothers: Floyd; Ray (Janelle), Ron (Debbie). Sisters: Esther and Becky. Children: Teresa, Tyler, TX; Philip Jr. (Lyka), Cebu, Philippines; Shelly, Coeur d’ Alene, ID; Apryl (Jason), Rathdrum, ID; Lori (Reason), Ontario, OR; David (Christina), Payette, ID; Wendy (Mike), Payette, ID; 28 Grandchildren, 21 Great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Graveside is Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 2pm at Riverside Cemetery. A Celebration of life will follow at 3pm at River of Life Christian Center in Payette, ID. 

The family would like to thank Canyon Home Care and Hospice for their love and care the last few months.
