Phil N. Hawks & his brother Ellis Hawks were both part of our Class of 1962 as shown in our Payette High School yearbooks from our 7th grade Treasure Chest through our 1960 AXE. Phil Hawks graduated from Wendell High School, Idaho in 1962.

It was kind of one of Phil's daughter to inform us that "He went to be with our lord June 12 2014 with a short battle with cancer."

Phil a long time Craig resident passed away in his home on June 12, 2014 after battling Pancreatic Cancer. He was born the third of six children to Flossie (Nattress) and David Hawks in Wendell, Idaho. Later his family moved to King Hill, Idaho. Where he spent most of his childhood. He was a boy scout and grew up working on his grandfather’s farm. He then graduated from Payette High School. After graduation he was called up as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints in Craig. There he met his first wife to be Leona Faye (Allen). They were later married in the Salt Lake Temple September 2, 1966. A few months after he was married he was called up again but this time to the U.S. Army as a Radioman and was deployed to Vietnam. He returned safely home and started his family and worked for Meadow Gold in Craig. Then he moved his family to Meridian, Idaho and went the Boise State College and received his Bachelors in business which he received in only 3 years and his teaching certification. He taught at Meridian High School a few years and moved again to Marsing, Idaho where he worked on his family's ranch. He later moved his family back to Craig. They separated ways in 1981. In this union he had five children.
Later on, on October 30, 1983 he was remarried to Beatrice Smith and inherited three step children that he loved. In Craig he went to work for Tristate and as a substitute teacher for the Moffat County Schools. Where he always talked about his children to other students. So everyone knew he was our dad.:) In this union he had three more children.
He loved his family, friends and church. He loved to help others. Even on his last days he would continue to do everything he could. His pride was in his children and spoke of them often. He was also very strong in his beliefs and ideals and he wasn’t afraid to express them. He was also a very passionate, generous and a loving person. You would be very blessed and enriched to have known him or had him in your life. He was well known for the man who rode around town even in the winter on his white scooter and often had his dog “ToTo” behind him. We will miss him, his big hug’s, and smile and he will be forever in our hearts. We love you dad.
He was laid to rest on June 17, 2014. Services were held at The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter- Day Saints with Bishop Kent Nielsen conducting. Interment was at the Craig Cemetery with full Military Honors from the VFW and American Legion. His oldest son David Hawks played “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes at his request. Pallbearers were his grandsons Jarod McCoy, Keith Smith, Trian Hawks, Trevor Hawks, Alex Hawks, and Jacob Patin. Honorary Pallbearers were his granddaughters Whitley McCoy and Jessie Hawks. He was preceeded in death by both of his parents, two brother in laws, a niece and nephew.
He is survived by his brothers; Dean (Pat) Hawks, Ellis Hawks, Rodney (Carol) Hawks, sisters; Janette Law, Dianna Heider and many nieces and nephews.
He is also is survived by his children David (Debra) Hawks, Trisha (Kirk) Smith, Sebrina Hawks, Shawna (Rick) Darnell, Tom (Kelly) Hawks, Benjamin (Brianna) Hawks, Annette (Carson) Pratt, Katherine (Anthony) Martin, and step children Cynthia (Darrel) Pennington, Heather (Trevor) Clendenin, Doug (Tricia) Hawks. He had twenty one grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren and two great grandsons and one on the way. Donations can be made to Grant Mortuary of Craig or The VFW post # 4265 in care of Phil N. Hawks.
