After writing my initial comments about Jill, more memories surfaced. So, a re-write is in order...
Jill and I were high school friends. She was so easy to be friends with, and I felt an instant rapport with her. To me, it was as though we had been friends our entire lives. Jill was funny, talented, honest, and intelligent. She was a great conversationalist, and expressed herself with such passion and conviction that she captured the attention of those around her. Jill was active in PHS drama productions, and was accepted into a performing arts program in San Francisco while still attending PHS. Jill aspired to be like Barbra Streisand whom she idolized. I admired Jill's self-confidence, and the fact that she had no fear of performing in front of an audience. My not-so-confident, non-performing self lived vicariously through Jill. Jill made an impression on me that has stayed with me throughout my life.
Jill loved her family, and was very close to them. She loved being a twin to her brother Jack. Jill taught me a little about her Jewish faith, and I remember thinking it was really cool that she received a gift each day for eight straight days during Hanukkah. Jill attended my wedding, and I attended hers. She was a beautiful and happy bride. The closeness and love Jill shared with her family was even more evident on her wedding day.
Jill and I continued to keep in touch after her wedding. Sometime after the birth of her daughter, Jill called to tell me that she and her baby daughter were visiting at her parents' home in Petaluma. We made plans to get together. It was wonderful to see Jill, and equally wonderful to meet her precious daughter. Jill was madly in love with her daughter, and it came as no surprise that Jill was a nurturing mother.
When I think of Jill, which is often, I instantly see her warm smile and that bright twinkle in her eyes. I feel so fortunate to have known her.
I think of Jill often, she was my best friend in junior high...and we remained friends up to her passing. I loved her family and spent much time in their home. I was out of town when the tragic event happened, she had just returned from WA , and had visited with my parents while whe was there. At the time I lived in Vallejo...I'd gone to WA a week after she had been at my parents, and arrived back in CA a couple of weeks after her. It was an awful blow for me, to come back to such aweful news. Jill was an awesome human being. I miss her, and her family even still. T~
