123 E. Colonial Street
Graduated Finletter in 1976
Some things I remember:
Playing Hide and Go Seek tag every night on Colonial Street, followed by Doorbell Dixie.
Playing assball on the side of Grants at the shopping center
Dr. Larkin telling an assembly full of students that they will "rue the day" if they did something he didn't like (what that was I don't remember) .... "and rue means regret!"
Trying to get myself, and especially my testicles, out of the way of a Freddie Albert slapshot while playing street hockey on roller skates on West Walnut Park drive, and failing to do so.
Buying candy everyday from Paul, and trying to hold my book bag, a water ice and a soft pretzel with a lot of mustard at the same time.
Mr. Enama smashing a fully saturated huge sponge into the back of my head/neck, soaking me and my clothes for the rest of the day.
Playing for hours and hours and hours with nothing but one ball, or a hopscotch heel, or neighbor's doorbells, or nothing at all
Grilling fish or chicken in Kenny Kanfer's driveway
Finding pride, and feeling macho, at being assigned to hold one of the biggest bells in Mr. Johnson's (hey, they are the ones who can't sing) Bell Group, despite having to wear white gloves.
Big Jefferey Factor, that older kid in 5th grade, walking me to school when I was in 1st grade.
Along with David Selvin and Scott Cohen, kicking off one particular girl's left shoe into the bushes while walking home from school, getting a call from her mother at lunch that she hobbled home with just one shoe, that if we don't get it back we will have to replace it, and reminding me that you can't buy just one shoe, but needed to buy a pair! (we did find it)
