Wayne (Dobie) was our neighbor on Mayfair Street. He was an English teacher in Japan for some time.

Here's a link to a 2004 thread about him on the Jazz Corner blog where he was a frequent poster under the name SinginSumo:

Dobie and I met in the hospital(AEMC) when he was in 8th grade and i was in the 7th. We remained friends until he passed away. He was my "best friend" until I left Philly to move to California.
He and I shared a love of music, humor and so much more. I will always miss Dobie and love him dearly.

"Dobie" was a guy with a lot of talent. His humour is what stands out in my mind. Over the years I would bump into him, always in a different venue. I was surpised to hear about his interest in Jazz. During the years we hung out together he was into bands like Sweet Stavin Chain and their hangout in Germantown. I was into Jazz those days which Dobie appreciated. He turned me onto some do it yourself stereo equipment. It was great to read that he went onto teaching in Japan - something I never would have imagined for him. Thought he would end up involved with music as a DJ, promoter, or exec.
