Brad and all, wish I could make this coming beer summit, but I am trapped at our home in Show Low with temperatures about 30 degrees below the Phoenix heat. I look forward to meeting you all soon, and Brad, I want to pick your brain a bit on Costa Rica. I've been there twice, Should have invested heavily on my first trip in the mid 1990's. Planning to go back in the next year.

Lester  Costa Rica was a place a Sargent that was with us in the US Army in Okinawa in 68-69 kept talking about because he was close to retiring after 30 years in the Arny. Sgt. LeBeaumont was a well educated man, and he told us about the advantages of Costa Rica. Sounded like a great place, and he had already bought a House there. Worth checking out.

I am officially fully supporting Donald J. Trump because he has realized that Putin is a Con Man and has committed to supplying Ukraine with defensive Weapons. I am not waiting for a Phone Call however.

See U All this evening, if the Creek don't rise

I was thinking about Grade School at Madison #2.  When I was about 9 or 10 we had a classmate who stricken with cancer.  His name was Terry Reynolds.  He lived two streets from me on Monticito between Cristea and Shaughnessy and  we always (I guess at that time we said) played together.  They had to take his leg!!  Terry never gave up but about a year later he and his Doctors lost the fight.  The rest of the story is that after Terry lost his leg, he still wanted to play Little League.  Our Little League made accommodations so that he could be a batter without having to run if he hit the ball and playing first base with compensation for his limited range.  Terry was and is always an inspiration to me!!

Come on Les, I'm driving 8 hours to get to the Beer Summit.  But I'm not coming for the Beer.  We will be doing one in Oct/Nov so we will just have to wait to see you!

Sorry, but I'm on a roll.  You may have heard of the I.C.E. Raids in McCarther Park.  I've always enjoyed the song McArthur Park but never knew it was in L.A..  It might be worth a listen?

Jim, totally agree with you. My limited opinion is;

Since sometime after the election of Barack Obama, the political and cultural divide in this country hasn’t just grown—it’s exploded. We no longer debate. We no longer compromise. There’s no middle ground. Both political parties have played their role in this mess, but today, the left seems to have veered completely off the rails.

We’ve watched as they ignored the obvious—claiming the border was secure while thousands crossed it daily. They defended Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities for four years, even as the evidence to the contrary piled up. They spent trillions on pet projects, driving inflation through the roof, all while telling Americans the economy was “strong.” They demonized fossil fuels and pushed everyone toward electric vehicles with zero foresight about how we’d power them.

Perhaps most frightening, they refuse to deal with the criminals they’ve let in. They oppose virtually every measure to clean up our streets. I wonder—if one of their own daughters or granddaughters were brutally raped or murdered by one of these criminals—would they still oppose deportation? Would they still preach compassion over accountability?

There is no common sense left. Many on the left seem infected with a kind of derangement—Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). And frankly, it should be classified as a mental illness. So many people hate Trump, yet they can’t even explain why—only that they've been told to.

This feels disturbingly close to what Nikita Khrushchev warned us about. He said:

“We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism, until they suddenly awake to find they have communism.”

They’ve taken over our schools and started planting the seeds early. Just like in parts of the world where toddlers are taught to chant “Death to America,” our children here are being indoctrinated—only the slogans are masked as “equity,” “inclusion,” and “climate justice.”

It’s happening right in front of us. And the silence—or worse, the complicity—from so many is deafening.

Good job Jim and Les!  This craziness goes back to the sixties.  A lot of the radicals from then are now Grandparents.  Their kids were raised in an undisciplined way and now those kids are parents and have raised these anarchists the same way.  Anything goes!!

Les and Jim, right on. The left are the enemy of America.

Our Law Enforcement personnel, whether they are local Police, Border Patrol, or I.C.E. Officers are under attack.  I wish Trump would try to get Congress to pass a law that if anyone fires a weapon at a Law Enforcement Officer of any kind it should be the death penalty!  A few stupid Democrats have introduced a bill that our Law Enforcement cannot wear masks while thousands (if not millions) of protesters going back to the BLM riots were wearing masks.  I also wish some Republicans would introduce a bill that makes it illegal for protesters to wear masks at protests.  The Dems don't have the votes to get their bill passed but the Republicans do and I would Love to see Trump sign that bill.  This "mostly peaceful" protest at the "Pot Farm" in California where protesters were throwing rocks at Law Enforcement vehicles and were fired on by at least one individual was totally illegal.  I.C.E. Had a Court Order to be there.  The owners of the "Pot Farm" was hiring illegals and even worse had 10 "minor" illegals working there, 8 of which were unaccompanied minors.

DeWitt Bacon

Jim and Lester, right on. It's ok for the leftist rioters to wear masks to hide their identity to keep from being identified, but require masks for law enforcement so they can be identified and doxed. What we are witnessing is nothing short of pure anarchy on the left. From Schumer to Raskin and on down, the left will not rest until they tear our country down to a pure authoritarian government with both Communism and Fascism. Remember the circle of government that I and others have talked about. The far left circles down toward Communism, while the far right circles down toward Fascism. They come together at the bottom.

What do you think about this idea? The ATF, or another firearm agency, should offer free firearm training to qualified applicants. By qualified, I mean an extensive background check and mental evaluation. They should undergo the same firearm training that law enforcement officers undergo. Those who qualify should be given 'POSSIE' status and allowed to carry their firearms anywhere. Left-wing rioters might give a second thought when they see millions of ordinary citizens packing.

Just a thought.

If there is a positive side of the Phoenix heat, it sure keeps the protests few and far between and if there is one, it is short lived. I recall back in BLM riots, about a couple hundred were protesting close to downtown and the morons laid down on the street to block a freeway entrance. That didn't last long. Bikers will tell you when they go down, it's not the accident injuries that hurt so much as the third degree burns they get laying on the pavement. Peaceful protest is very acceptable. These paid leftist protestors do not know how nor do they intend to peacefully protest. Watching the left meltdown and making fools of themselves is actually a bit entertaining. Talk about losing your way. We have a Trump store up here in Show Low. I guarantee there will be no protesting  or attacks on that store. We have enough rednecks up here who will quell that in a minute. Back in 2020, rumor was antifa and blm were heading up here to close that store and about 40 locals with AR's, ball bats, bike chains and other defensive weapons showed up and waited for them. Nothing happened, I heard the protestors got word and decided otherwise. Oh, DeWitt, I think your idea is already in place here in Arizona. Except anyone can carry, training or no training. I'm afraid someone who thinks they are authorized to shoot a protestor would start something that would really ad fuel to the arguments of the left.

I'm hearing all the time from Liberals how dangerous the Right Wing Republicans are.  When was the last time you saw a Republican, 1. Shoot at a President or Presidential candidate.?  2.  Illegally Set fire to anything?  3.  Break into a business?  4. Throw stones or anything at anyone?

Lefty here, We left Calofornia at 9 AM, we ran into Traffic Accidents and Traffic Stops in 2 places, outiside of Indio we were stopped for an hour and we reached the Vig at 630 PM, and so we reconnoitered the Place, yelled for Coats and Rihs, and left. We met some Friends of mine at the Red Devil on Bell Road and ate with them. I got to describe the Tortures I would inflict on Sean's 3 sons if they misbehaved in the Restaurant, Sean Grimm is now 31 years old, and he and his Wife Izzy have 3 sons. 10 8 and 4 years old. I used to hold Sean in the Air by his Ankles and tell him he couldn't get down until he would make the Noises the Wind Makes, He would be held by his Achilles Tendons and I would squeeze them and he would, between laughter, go "Whoooo, woooooo, Whoooo." and yell Uncle Mike this is Child Abuse, and I would say Wait until we put on the Boxing Gloves then youll get Child Abuse. I know that if I leave the day before the next Summit I will make it on time even if I have to take the Covered Wagon.

Phoenix sure has changed, some of the places on Indian School Rd. and 36th Street are recognizable only by the Buildings, but not the Businesses that are located there.40th Street and Indian School Rd. was the Corner on the southwest of the intersection where I used to pick up Newspapers in the morning for Delivery.

Why do you guys keep it so damned Hot over there, It was like 115 degrees Fahrenheit in the Shade.Wow, I almost melted.

The people at the Vig were nice, We told them we were trying to get there with a Group, and I said it's a Group that regularly meets here. My hair is White, and so the young Man said  "You mean those Ood Codgers who meet in the back, We wheeled them out of here a few minutes ago" I said no, we are talking about a much younger group and the Young Man laughed and asked me "Are you someone's Grandpa"? If I would have had Peanut Shells I would have dumped them on the Floor. Stay Cool tul  next time. Mike "Lefty" Kelly

Mike, Glad everything is okay!  Living in Colorado now I feel the same way about the heat in Phoenix.  I think they keep it so hot to keep the Liberal Californians and Coloradans away.  I can't believe that we used to have two-a-day football practices, two hours each, in mid-August with only one water break in High School.  I was a lot tougher back then!

Did you guys just realize Phoenix is hot?  I left the place right after gradutaion in 1965.  Shortly after I left, my parents moved to the Bay Area so I never had to return, except for reunions.  We are having a very nice summer, several days of hot (90 degrees) and then several days in the 70's....   perfect!

Hi Patty, I think when you live in the heat of Phoenix you just bare it because there's not much you can do about it!

07/13/25 11:42 AM #15255

DeWitt Bacon

WHAT? It gets hot in Phoenix in the summer? You've got to be kidding. Right? Most of us grew up in Phoenix and remember going outside to play. The heat didn't bother us as much back then. It's hard to believe that we grew up there without air conditioning in our homes and cars.. Of course, we all had the 4-40 air conditioning in our vehicles. I think you all know what that is. For some reason, the heat didn't bother us as much as it did after we became air-conditionized. When people hear that I am from Phoenix, they always say something like, "I guess you're used to the heat then." I always reply, "No, you never get used to it. You just learn to live with it." The weather here is somewhat cooler. It rarely gets over 100, usually in the high 80s to low 90s. However, there is also the high humidity. But I will say this about that. I am much more comfortable here than I was when I was in Phoenix the last time I visited, during the hottest part of the summer. The weather was great there last May for the reunion.

Michael, you were talking about my old neighborhood when you mentioned 36th St. and Indian School. I remember Wes and I would ride our bikes there (in the summer, of course)_. There was an A.J. Bayless store and other stores, including a drug store, a 5&10 cent store, and an Allgeres (sp) restaurant, where we would go in and get a Coke to cool us down. The drugstore had a soda fountain where I would stop and get a chocolate malt. Malts? No one serves malts anymore. lol. Such memories.

Mary Powers (Evans)

DeWitt and Jim--I agree about malts.  Whenever we try a new ice cream place and want a shake, we look for a malt option.  I think Dairy Queen still has malts.

When I moved to Phoenix in 1964, the population for the metro area was about 670,000. Today it is about 5 million and Phoenix city is the 5th largest in the country. Evidently, there are plenty of people who have learned or simply are not put off by the heat. But I do think that the older we get the less tolerance we have for the extreme heat. Having grown up in Kansas City with it's high humidity, I'll still take Phoenix and it's heat. I've been climatized. But, also, I've been lucky enough to have a place in the White Mountains for over 40 years to escape the heat if only for weekends. Fortunately, there are lots of people who like humidity or we'd have 50 million people living here. One thing I've found, owning a Tesla, if we go out during the heat of the day, I simply leave the AC running in the car or turn it one 10 to 15 minutes before I plan to get in the car and it is a nice 75 degrees in the car instead of the 150 plus. That is a game changer and my top reason for owning a Tesla.
