I reconnected with Kelly and Dan several years ago. My wife and I rode our motorcycle from New York to North Carolina to visit them; Kelly was in remission then. I hadn't seen them since the early 80's when I was in the Air Force and spent some time hopping around Europe on Uncle Sam's dime. I met up with them in Athens, Greece were Kelly was stationed and Dan was waiting to go to boot camp.
They both looked fantastic, as I said Kelly was in remission but doing well and Dan was in his 26th year in the Air Force.
Tragically the cancer came back a couple of years later and Kelly lost her battle

Never saw her after school got out. I went to Marine Boot Camp and she to the Air Force. Would have loved to talk with her before she was gone.
