His was a kind soul who made me laugh, was godfather to my son, and who was taken too soon from those who knew him best. He is sorely missed and was loved by many.
Paul Cowden had a tremendous impact upon me in my freshman year, along with Dan Perry, Ron Jackway and Frank McGan. I never understood his commands when marching on his drill team but then again, neither did anyone else. I looked up to him and stayed in touch for years thereafter. Among my favorite photos is one of Paul, Dan, M. Montgomery, Frank and me on a Cactus Hunt (Table Mesa, where we went after getting kicked out of Tonto National Forest). Whenever I visit Sergeant Combs at the VA Cemetery in Cave Creek, I always stop by to see how Paul is doing. It was a sad event when we, his friends, buried him. He lives on in our thoughts and hearts.
