Adam was killed in a car crash in Tucson on May 20th, 2005. He was visiting me in Phoenix and did not stay over that night before going back to Tucson. After arriving home, he went out late to party with his friend. You can read the story below from the newspaper account of the fatal accident.

Man gets 10 1/2 years for crash that killed 2

A 25-year-old Tucson man was sentenced to 10 1/2 years in prison followed by seven years on probation for killing two men in a car crash.

Thomas Frederic Haas Jr. was originally charged with two counts of second-degree murder, but pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter, said Deputy County Attorney Casey F. McGinley.

Pima County Superior Court Judge Charles S. Sabalos also sentenced Haas to five years of probation for a misdemeanor DUI count, McGinley said.

Haas was given almost a year credit for time served in the jail and must serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence before being eligible for probation, McGinley said.

Haas was driving north on Mountain Avenue at East Copper Street around 2 a.m. May 20 when his vehicle collided with the side of a car with Robert Lane, 41, and Adam Oreck, 44, inside.

Lane and Oreck died at the scene.

Haas fled on foot and was arrested later, the Citizen previously reported.
