Gordon was one of my brother David's best friends. He was shot and killed trying to save somebody from being mugged. I can't remember what year it was, but, I believe in was in the early 80s. My brother lived in California and couldn't get over here to pay his respects. He was quite saddened about it and the way it happened. When David was in town for the holidays, he went to see some of his friends to find out exactly what happened to Gordon. Gordon use to tease and pick on me a lot when we were kids. We all went to the same grade school and with him and David being friends I saw him around a lot too. He was still a nice guy though. His nickname for me was Chesty, and I don't know why. I remember him fondly because he was funny and a nice guy deep down. I remember him spending the night at our place, I can't remember the circumstances, but, he wanted to sleep in our backyard, even though our mom insisted that he come in and sleep on the couch. That was when I realized what a nice guy he really was. Gordon died a hero in my book and did not deserve to die in such a cruel manner. I don't know if they ever caught the person that did it or not. My brother was proud of him and so was I.

I agree with what you posted as i met Gordon through another friend John Villamez who now lives in California as well. We had some good times at the Verde River with some of Gordons friends like Pat Hickey and Steve Moran. Gordon was somewhat of a wild man and pretty fearless but i agree he did not deserve the fate that befell him. I lost contact with him by about 1975 or so as i graduated in 1971  he was about four years younger than me.
