William "Bill" Cavanaugh Mason passed away on June 12, 2011. He is preceded in death by his father Gordon P. Mason, mother Eileen Cavanaugh Mason, brother Stephen Mason, sister Susan Mason and beloved dog RCA. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Claudia, son William C. Mason Jr, three daughters, Joanie Levine, Erin Mason and Katy Mason, two sons-in-law, Jason Levine and Chip Hanna, two grandsons, Jack Levine and Max Baer Hanna, sister Sharon Likos and brother Gary Mason.
A life-long Phoenician, Bill graduated from St. Mary's High School and ASU. He worked as a Benefits Specialist in the insurance industry for over 35 years with a reputation for service, honesty and integrity. Early in his career, his desire to help children with special needs led him to teach at Devereux School and later to a position as head of the physical education program at Phoenix Center for Education. Bill was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather "Popo", who delighted in entertaining his grandchildren and always put his family first. His overriding impetus in life was to provide assistance to others both on a professional and personal level. He was active as a coach, cheerleader and fan for all of his children in their various activities and sports. Bill was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing and body surfing every summer in San Diego. He had a special place in his heart for the harmonica and enjoyed jamming with his sons-in-law. Bill and Claudia were gracious hosts for many extended family gatherings and opened their California vacation home to many "Zonies". His generosity and spirit knew no bounds. Bill will be remembered as an advocate for those less fortunate and a positive influence to all those whose lives he touched.
In liew of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Mary's Food Bank or the Child Crisis Center in Mesa. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at the Pink Pony Restaurant located at 3831 N. Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, 85251 from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday June 19th.
Bill leaves his family and friends with his classic farewell "You know, I love you".
