Carol Suzanne Bever passed away unexpectedly at her residence on July 23, 2017. Carol was born on October 12, 1951. She was preceded in death by her sister, Chris Scroggins, and her father, B. Winston Bever. She is survived by her mother Irene, sister Connie, and nephew Jesse.
Carol was born and raised in Los Angeles, and after a brief move with the family to Arizona, returned after High School graduation to Los Angeles, and settled in Santa Barbara. This is where she started her journey into cooking, and over the next 15 years, she worked as a cook for local caterers and eventually set up and ran her own catering business. She continued her passion for cooking when she moved to San Francisco in 1986. She worked at Zuni restaurant for 20 years working her way up from line to cook to dinner sous chef, then worked briefly at Bar Jules and Txoko the following years.
Carol simply loved to cook, trying new recipes, and sharing them with her friends. She also loved music, teaching piano in her early years, and then working as a D.J. in the early 90's at various clubs in San Francisco. Besides the soul and new wave music she played as a D.J, she also loved Mahler, Rachmaninoff and most Operas, Tosca being her favorite. She loved vintage clothing, and was especially thrilled when she could wear it to a party, or at Halloween.
She had a zest for life, laughed a lot, and loved to entertain, and even though her health problems and dependency followed her throughout her life and reduced her capacity to work, she continued to cook for her friends and play the music she loved. She will be missed by her family and friends.
