John was once a baker at the first all vegetarian resturant/store/bakery 'compound in LA. I was visiting Carol Neiman in Hollywood Hills and he lived with her. I spent my 18th birthday there and he brought me home a carrot cake that he baked me. It was my first carrot cake and was scrumptous! Loved carrot cake ever since. He was kind and gentle and unforgetable..........
I think people have John mixed up with his brother Tom, I know Tom worked as a baker at a restaurant called HELP, Health Education Love and Peace in Hollywood. John may have worked there later but I don't recall seeing him, he moved to Minn. right out of high school. I lived with Tom for a couple weeks before I went into the Marine Corps and went up there on weekends often. John was born in 1950 and died in 1993 Bobby Collins and I were with him the night he died. He had melanoma. Tom died in 1980 of a brain aneurysm, the same thing that his sister Dorothy died of while we were still in high school.
Thanks Dan. I knew John better than I did Tom, but was not aware John had died so young. I liked him a lot. We shared classes, contraband and laughs...the things teenagers do. I was glad to know both of the brothers.
Greetings Everyone..this is the first time I think I have posted since the reunion. Right after the reunion company came from out of town for Thanksgiving, then Christmas started, and just Monday I took my tree down and the boatload of decorations I put up to make my house festive. I really enjoy the holidays.
Danny I so appreciate you letting us know about the updated info about John. I am trying to get all my facts right before I try and change the dates on our website. I am new to doing some of this website stuff so please be patient with me. You said he died April, 1993, could you tell me the day. What a friend you must have been to him. You also sent me something about Charlotte Anderson from our class living in Winona, Minnesota, and dying from melanoma. I think I am mixing something up. We're they married or dating?
Bob Parr we missed you at the reunion. I never knew Lyn and Al had a wild child! In 2009 I was in northern Minnesota in March. The town I was born in is on Lake Superior 20 miles up the shore from Duluth. It was so cold and part of the lake was frozen with lots of ice fishing going on. Brrrr, glad my dad decided to move to Phoenix in 1956 and got the job at Airesearch. It's so funny how many years your dad, my dad, and Steve Harris's dad carpooled together. Are your parents still w ith us?
i love hearing all our class stories from different alums in the class.
You're right Bob my dad was part of the carpool. Betsy we also moved to PHX from Moline,Illinois in 1956 when may dad was offerd a position at Airesearch as well. Bill
Bob you are right, my Dad carpooled, before it was fashionable, with your Dad. He knew Betsy's dad well. my Dad put in 30 yrs and was never laid off, which was amazing in the aircraft ind. back then. Garret AirResearch was a good company. I went to grade school with the Gaffeneys.
John was A Very Good Friend of mine at St. Simon and Jude. He was my Friend in High School until he left. His Father was a Friend Of mine and taught me alot playing baseball., Some Fools laughed at him but He was a great person in my eyes. I still remember our nights at the St. Simon And Jude Ball Park.
