I remember you Edson, sitting near me in homeroom.  We both had the good fortune of having our last names start with A. May you rest in peace.

I've thought about this ever since the reunion.  After talking with a reliable source, I discovered a few things about Edson.  First, He was older that most of us and 2nd had many different interests.  As he grew older he tried on new careers a few years at a time.  I think he was married at one time, but am not sure if it lasted.  I believe he was in the military, but am unsure of the branch.  He was a wanderer, and still remains to me, at least, a persona who drifted into our lives and then drifted out.  I remember saying Hello to him a few times at school and wondering what he was like.  Then like so many of us I dropped the ball and wandered on myself.

Edson lived his life as he chose to live it. He was a chameleon, always changing, always reinventing himself. There was one true constant, his love of San Francisco Bay. He was on the Bay as a Coast Guard reservist for over twenty years, as a tug boat mate, as a marine union spokesman, and as an entrepreneur. Along the way he was also a husband, step-father, uncle, salesman, candidate for the U.S. Congress, trucker, and welder. He had many good friends and his memorial service along the water in Petaluma was truly moving. We miss him.
