Nancy Coit and Judy MacIlvaine sat behind me in an 10th or 11th grade class, probably English.  They often were the first to answer general questions to the class, which afforded me the opportunity to turn around and gaze admiringly at them.

Living on the east coast has isolated me from contact with the Piedmont crowd and our class, although I attended the class's 50th reunion and was saddened to see Nancy's health decline at that point. She will live on in my memory as that bright young woman of promise.

I'll certainly miss Nancy, one of the most beautiful people I have known. We'd attended UCSB summer session between our Junior and Senior years along with Brad and Lee. Beach parties in the evenings! I remember a party in her house where, we danced to Sam Cooke's "You Send Me". Later in life, I learned from her that she transitioned to be lover of the natural world in Nevada City. RIP Nancy.

If Nancy was still with us I wouldn't dare post this.  At Stanford back in the 60s and probably more recent than that,  there was a tradition known as the "Quad Queens".  I'm not sure how the candidates were selected or if there was an actual vote, but Nancy was one of 2 chosen to represent the freshman class.  It was a very respected honor.  All the class queens had their pictures (in formal attire--no sashes) in the Stanford yearbook.  Remembering how shy Nancy was its amazing to me how she pulled off the notoriety that accompanied this!!  I'm sure she would rather I remember her interest in Yoga and spirituality,  but I thought the rest of her class mates should know a different side of a very sweet girl/lady.  A well done life!
