In Memory

Ann Howell (Marceau)

It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I announce the passing of Ann Howell Marceau, a radiant soul who touched the lives of everyone she met. Born with an infectious smile and a spirit that could light up any room, Ann’s kindness knew no bounds. From her early days at Beach School to her time at Piedmont High School, she forged friendships that would last a lifetime, cherished by classmates and teachers alike. She has especially loved all of the Class of ‘61 members, especially her oldest friend, Diana Ambrose.

Ann was not just a beauty in appearance but also in heart, crowned as a beauty queen during her high school and college years at Berkeley. Her grace and warmth shone brightly, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In a twist of fate, Ann’s adventurous spirit led her to Waikiki Beach in Hawaii, where she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Marceau. They exchanged vows in 1970, embarking on a beautiful journey together that blessed them with two wonderful daughters, Laura and Katie. Ann’s love for her family was unwavering, and she found immense joy in the laughter and love of her three grandchildren, Charlie, Lucy, and Adam.

As we remember Ann, we celebrate her life—a life filled with love, laughter, and kindness. Though she has left us, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all those who had the honor of knowing her. Ann will forever remain in our hearts, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who exemplified the true meaning of love and compassion. We will all miss her immensely.

Where do I start. I guess with that weekend in 1961 at Geoff Michael's family house in Inverness adjacent to the newly designated national seashore at Pt. Reyes. It had a huge impact on me. We managed to spend our adventure on the still-gravel roads leading to the lighthouse, meeeting Geoff's Portuguese fishermen acquaintences, and navigating a motorboat on Tomales Bay to the Hog Island oyster beds and our famous gale force three o'clock wind. Two years later, just after I met Barb, we came up with some friends to All-Cal Weekend, where I introduced her to Ann on Piedmont Avenue, proudly holding a beer in her hand. I showed Barb  Marin County that weekend, including Pt. Reyes, and she fell in love with it. We get out there many times a year now. God's country. Bob is such a great guy and will certainly carry on the kindnesses that defined their relationships with family and friends.

Way back in 7th grade I met Ann as all  3 of the grammer schools were mixing up in Jr. High.  I got a group of girls who we were all having a tough time to enter the Talent Show and we  did a routine in the skits  called Moses Supposes and won 1st place.  We were so proud. That made a connection for us that never ended. She was so smart, very kind, just a beautiful person.  My thoughts for the family .  She will be missed.
