Marty was a dear, sweet friend, who came to Piedmont from St. Joseph, Missouri when her father became the minister of Oakland First Christian Church.
After graduation, Marty went to UC Davis and then on to get a Masters in Social Work at Sacramento State. Her first job was with the Stanford Home for Children in Sacramento. Marty met Bob Hotle through his sister, Helen (class of '62). They were married in Bakersfield in 1970 and had an extended honeymoon in Europe.
Bob and Marty settled in the Orinda-Walnut Creek area, where she had a private practice in therapy. When Marty had a miscarriage, it was discovered that she had congestive heart failure. She died in May, 1977. Her husband, Bob, died in 1995 in an accident while hiking near his home in Lake Tahoe.
I will always remember Marty's kindness and concern for others, her clear-headed way of looking at life, and her joyful sense of humor.
