In Memory

Diana Cotton (Van Court)

Earl learned of Diana's death shortly after Highlander Echoes went to press last January. Carol Charm was kind enough to share a few memories of Diana in her college days after I told her the news. "I did call Diana's husband Charlie ... I had not spoken with Diana for many years, but I did know she had emphysema and had quit smoking five years ago ... Charlie was a frat brother with my college sweetheart. I attended UC Berkeley summer school with Charlie and we carpooled together so I introduced him to Diana and a few months later they were engaged. .. She married Charles Van Court and put him through law school at UC Davis while raising her family and working at various retail clothing stores in Davis.

Her son Lance was also kind enough to share his own words" ... I remember her for her love of her family and all of the friends my brother and I brought over. Everyone was always welcomed at our house. She touched many lives and I still have many people tell me how much they loved my mom and how much they miss her. Any successes that I have today are a direct relation to the love and support she had given me when I was growing up."

Diana passed away on January 20, 2004 with her family at her side. She is survived by her husband Charles, her sister Cynthia, her sons Jason and Lance, and two grandchildren. We will all miss Diana, and send our condolences to the family.
