Midge Lindsay (Hunt)

In Memoriam

Marguerite (Midge) Lindsay Hunt

1944-2020

Lindsay Hafer Carpenter was kind enough to share this account of her cousin. Marguerite (Midge) Lindsay Hunt passed away in October of 2020 due to a massive heart attack.  She was living in San Diego at the time.  Midge was born in Evanston, Illinois, and lived there until 1950 when the family came back to California, where both her parents were born.  Midge attended Havens Elementary School before PHS and lived next door to Pat Harper for many years.  Her first cousin, Lindsay Hafer Carpenter, and Midge were part of a very close family who all lived in Piedmont.  The cousins were one month apart in age. Their Grandfather, Harvey Bell Lindsay, built two brown shingled homes, on Oakland Avenue in the early 1900's which were torn down to enlarge Havens school.

Midge attended Cal Berkeley and belonged to Delta Gamma Sorority.  A year after graduating, Midge married Richard Hunt whom she met at Lindsay's wedding.  They have two children, Lindsay Jury and Seton Hunt.  Midge and Rich moved to Oregon after his graduation from Boalt Law School.  They lived in Oregon for over 20 years until they divorced.  Midge then moved east and worked for the government for many years.  After retiring, she returned to the Bay Area, first to Concord, then to Benicia to be near her daughter and two Granddaughters.  About 10 years ago, she moved to San Diego to be closer to her son and his two children.  Midge was a bright, caring, and smart woman.  She loved to entertain, was a gourmet cook, and had a wonderful sense of humor.  Midge always seemed to have at least one or two dogs who adored her and whom she spoiled.  Per her wishes, there was no memorial service after her death.

I still think about her often. We hadn't seen her in about five years and were talking about coming to San Diego that fall when she suddenly died.  Very sad but a blessing to not suffer at all.  We will all miss Midge.
