Joanie Blum (Atar)

Joni Blum (Atar)

Joni attended San Jose State through 1969, married and moved to Israel where they raised their children, horses and other animals.  In the 80s Joni was executive secretary to the Managing Director of Cargal Ltd, one of the largest cardboard plants in the world. She enjoyed music and training horses and was very proud of her family's accomplishments in Israel.

Joni's elder daughter, Emily, came to the US to finish college, living for a time with the Learner family.  Emily eventually became a nurse.

While in Israel, Joni was diagnosed with cancer and decided to return to the US.  She lived with her daughters, Emily and Yael in the upper Lakeshore area of Oakland.

As her cancer worsened, it was her longtime Piedmont and Oakland friends who took turns by her side, assisting her daughters in a very personal and loving hospice.

Emily is married and lives in Sonora, CA; Yael lives in Oakland.
