LaVerle "Val" Hiatt Johnson, 67, of Pierre, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at the Heart Hospital of South Dakota.  At Val's request she was cremated.  A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Southeast Pierre United Methodist Church, 2315 Park St.

LaVerle was born july 24, 1940 in Ainsworth, Neb., to David and G. Irene (Wilkinson) Hiatt.

She is survived by her husband, Duwayne, of Pierre; three daughters: Darla (Don) Messmer, of Box Elder, Kristi (Mike) Timm, of Pierre, Beth Uthe, of Presho;  two brothers: Mark (Deb) Hiatt, of Pierre, and Dwight Hiatt, of Rapid City; two sisters: Barbara Smedley and Patty Hooker, both of Pierre;  seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.  LaVerle was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald.
